Advert for Registrar’s Appointment

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is an independent examinations body established by University of Lagos after approval was given by Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria in December 2013 to establish an examination body. The body which formerly took off with consortium of ten partner universities and JAMB as partners is saddled with the responsibility of conducting qualitative examinations for candidates seeking Direct Entry admissions into tertiary institutions.

In line with the guidelines of the Board, the Governing Board of JUPEB hereby notifies the Partner Universities that the Board has commenced the process of appointing a new Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer of the Board. Applications are, hereby invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for the position.

 

THE POSITION

The Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer is the Principal Officer responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Board and reports directly to the JUPEB Governing Board. The Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer works directly with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos who is the Chairman of the Board.

The Registrar/CEO must pursue the realization of the JUPEB’s Vision and Mission.

For the post, the Board seeks candidates with vision, proven academic distinction, managerial ability, integrity and transparency in private and public life. The right candidate should also have the ability to improve on the standard of conduct of examinations of the Board.

He/She should be able to command respect and engender the cooperation and loyalty of Partner and Affiliate universities, JUPEB staff and candidates sitting for JUPEB examination as well as being able to work with JAMB and other external organs linked to JUPEB.

 

SCHEDULE OF DUTIES

The Registrar/ CEO shall:

  1. Be generally responsible to the Governing Board in maintaining the efficiency and good order of JUPEB and for ensuring the proper enforcement of its statute, and regulations;
  2. Have the competence to advise the Governing Board on any matter affecting the administration, finance and policy of the Board;
  3. At management level, provide leadership in the relentless pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the role of JUPEB, especially in the registration of candidates and conduct of examinations; monitoring of teaching in all partner and affiliate universities, and other essential community service;
  4. Be responsible for discipline in the Board;
  5. Regulate and ensure standards are upheld in all universities participating in JUPEB programme each year.
  6. Undertake any other duties that will promote the growth and development of the JUPEB in a conducive atmosphere.

 

THE ELIGIBILE CANDIDATE

An eligible candidate for the post of Registrar/ CEO of JUPEB must be:

  1. a person currently working in any of the partner universities of JUPEB;
  2. an exemplary scholar with a PhD degree in any discipline who also has a track record of teaching; research and community service;
  3. a person with demonstrable capacity for original thinking and creativity;
  4. a person who has been a Professor for at least 7 years, and not more than 65 years old by April 30, 2024;
  5. a person with astute managerial ability who can coordinate all JUPEB activities with high level of standards and able to conduct a national examinations with integrity;
  6. a person endowed with strong character and ability to give courageous and effective leadership; a person with a clear vision for the development of the JUPEB in realization of its mission and vision.

 

TENURE

The successful candidate shall hold office for a single term of four (4) years from May 1, 2024 on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.

 

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The remuneration and other conditions of service are comparable to the post of a Registrar/CEO of comparable examination bodies and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Board as appropriate.

  • Appointment letter as a professor in your institution
  • Other relevant appointment letters for post held in or outside the university (not compulsory)

  5. Marital Status, number and ages of children
  6. Name, Mobile Telephone number and E-mail of the Next of Kin
  7. Academic qualifications (degrees with classes-copies of certificates to be enclosed):
  8. Teaching, Research, Administrative and Managerial experience:
  9. Academic distinctions:
  10. Membership of academic and professional bodies
  11. Scholarly publications (well referenced);
  12. Names and addresses of three (3) Referees who should be able to attest to candidate’s academic and managerial abilities as well as his/her moral character and uprightness.
  13. Vision Statement: The candidate should also state in clear terms of not more than 1000 words, his/her vision for the JUPEB in the next four years.
